Kidney cancer, also called renal cancer, is cancer that begins in your kidneys; the two fist-sized, bean-shaped organs in your lower abdomen. The cause for kidney cancer is unclear, however, certain factors can increase the risk for the development. Some of the factors can include:

  • Smoking
  • Being male
  • High blood pressure
  • African American descent
  • Obesity
  • Family history of kidney cancer

Early symptoms of kidney cancer are rare but as the tumor increase in size, symptoms may become more prevalent. One or more of these symptoms may occur:

  • Loss of appetite
  • Blood in the urine
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Unusual weight loss
  • Unexplained fever that can last for weeks
