Proper Nutrition

During treatment, your cancer care team will instruct you on any dietary requirements you may have moving forward. A diet high in fatty foods, which provide a large amount of calories, may be recommended due to their potential to boost energy and help to transport vitamins through the bloodstream. In conjunction with a high calorie diet, a protein rich diet may also be recommended. This is because proteins help boost your immune system to fight off infection, helps to repair damaged tissue, and helps the body grow.

Regular Exercise

Along with a diet regiment, your physician may recommend some moderate exercise during treatment. Exercise, at anytime, helps to boost self-esteem, reduce anxiety and improve depression. This is especially true during cancer treatment. Physical activities will help with daily tasks that may have become a little more difficult since treatment started such as climbing stairs, doing housework, and walking for long periods of time. It will also help with the side effects associated with cancer and cancer treatment such as fatigue. For your safety, it is always best to check with your doctor for any exercise participation. He or she will advise you on any restrictions for your diagnosis and health.
